To Offer Hope is to Believe and trust there is an order to life, that there are rules that govern all, and that the universe is for us and not against us.
Hope is what sustains us during dark and difficult times. Truth and love are both essential, but without a ‘hope’ for brighter days, it becomes increasingly painful to endure the trials and tribulations of life.
Consider this… hope is the full culmination of what truth and love reveal. When we are fully aware of the truth of our lives (i.e. aware enough to make sense of our calling or purpose), and feel loved in a way that gives us a sense of belonging, acceptance, and forgiveness, we are the benefactors of a hope that transcends experiences, circumstances and/or realities.
Hope, like truth and love, only reach their full potential when they are given away sacrificially. So, again, in order to offer infinite hope to others, one must be in possession of infinite hope themselves. To offer anything else would be less than what each of us deserve and require… counterfeit, fake, and powerless.
Instead, rely on a hope that teaches you what you need to know and reminds you of what you already know to be true. As Jesus spoke in John 14: 25-26 (ESV), “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
To know what one needs to know when one needs to know it… what greater hope could one hope for?
